Our friends over at Racked NY are currently in the thick of New York Fashion Week, and we'll be posting some highlights of their coverage. This time around: feminine frocks from Nanette Lepore.
Show location: The Promenade, Bryant Park
The skinny: Finally, some color! Neon accents, wild prints, and multi-hued fringe kept this collection of little dresses and mutton-sleeved trench coats interesting.
Celebs spotted: Nigel Barker, Lauren Conrad, Jill Zarin
The takeaway: Lepore is always very commercial, but after the beiges and drabs of other shows this week, her use of color felt downright unusual. It would be hard not to be happy wearing these clothes.
10:48am: We're just walking between the Bryant Park tent lobby and the Promenade venue now for Nanette.
10:50am: And we're inside and seated. On each seat is Nanette's perfume and a copy of her "save the garment center" New York Times Op-Ed, along with a "save the garment center" bumper sticker.
10:55am: The perfume is packaged like upscale chocolates. We haven't yet had breakfast and it's pretty cruel of them to make us think of eating chocolate right now.
11:02am: Just walking in, trailed by paparazzi, is Lauren Conrad.
11:10am: Now we've got Nigel Barker and Real Housewife of NY Jill Zarin.
11:15am: Pre-show music is atmospheric and lightly techno, which is an oddly soothing combination. Such a difference from other shows with pounding bass.
11:20am: People are moving around, grazing for better seats. It's the Fashion Week circle of life!
11:24am: Still hasn't started, and we feel like we've been here forever already. Time passes slowly before a show, and so quickly during and after.
11:26am: We spoke too soon; the show is starting!
11:27am: It began dark, with navy blue silk and so long dresses were below the knees. But Nanette quickly recovered and the vibrancy is there, with a tribal kick.
11:28am: It's official: Nanette is not afraid of color for spring.
11:30am: Even khaki shorts are paired with a bright red shirt. Shoes are wedges for the most part, and just as colorful as the clothes in yellow, blue, and red.
11:31am: Colors now turning towards the neon. Like, dresses with neon accents; not full Michael Kors-of-last-season neon.
11:33am: Lots of yellow. Lauren Conrad is wearing a greeny-yellow dress, so at least she's almost in tune with the show.
11:35am: And it's over! It was actually a spring collection and not fall already.
11:36am: Nanette came out at the end with a little girl (daughter?) and everyone stood to take a picture, so it was like she got a standing ovation. Stay tuned for the full photo gallery and review.
