New York Fashion Week: Badgley Mischka

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Our friends over at Racked NY are currently in the thick of New York Fashion Week, and we'll be posting some highlights of their coverage. This time around: Luxe looks from Badgley Mischka.

Show Location: Bryant Park, The Tent
The skinny: Red-carpet masters Badgley Mischka are back with a spring/summer collection sure to get A-list stars drooling.
Celebs spotted: Fran Drescher, Elle's Joe Zee and Joann Palley, Andre Leon Talley, Meredith Melling Burke, Virginia Smith, Stefano Tonchi, Suzy Menkes, Amanda Hearst, Ivana Trump, Kelly Bensimon, Marc Indelicato, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, Robert Verdi, and of-the-moment models Arlenis Sosa, Chanel Iman, Daria Werbowy and Siri Tollerod.
The takeaway: We don't know what kind of summery place the Badgley Mischka girl is wearing these outfits, but damn do we want to go. Nothing on the runways thus far has been this blatantly luxurious, with swimsuits paired with necklaces dripping in flashy jewels and gowns ready for their close-up. When Chanel Iman stepped out in a candy apple-red ruffled dress, there was a collective gasp, and we hadn't even reached the showstoppers yet.

An added bonus was having a seat that allowed us a the smallest peek backstage, as Badgley and Mischka themselves arranges last minute details on the models seconds before they set foot on the runway. You can see a few of these kodak moments in our gallery above.

9:41am: I'm outside the runway. They're playing "Sinnerman" inside.

9:45am: Names on the front row seats, in no particular order: Andre Leon Talley, Meredith Melling Burke, Virginia Smith, Stefano Tonchi, Suzy Menkes, Amanda Hearst, Ivana Trump, Kelly Bensimon, Marc Indelicato, Kim Kardashian, Kelly Rowland, Kate Lanphear

9:46am: I'm not done. Joe Zee and Joann Palley of Elle. Mickey Boardman, Phillip Bloch, Robert Verdi. And Fran Drescher and guest.

9:55am: All the seats here have names on them. They gave me an aisle! Yay!!!

10:01am: Crazy hat lady is here.

10:03am: Why does Indelicato have a better seat than Drescher? Do they know they're messing with the Nanny?

10:04am: There are truly a bajillion fashion magazines. You realize this when every seat in the big tent is labeled.

10:07am: Looks on the program have colors described as "salt and pepper," "pimento," and (uh oh) "shocking pink."

10:08am: Famous models walking: Arlenis Sosa, Chanel Iman, Daria Werbowy, Siri Tollerod.

10:10am: Crazy hat lady is creating an issue of her seat. This might be how she gets into everything: By making a "Don't you know who I am?" fuss.

10:16am: And the celebs are rolling in. Photographers are going crazy—everybody woke up early for this one.

10:16am: There's an awful lot of tight, short dress action going on here for 10am on a Tuesday morning.

10:20am: Took a deep breath, plunged into the paparazzi scrum, came back with a photo of Fran Drescher. Totally worth it.

10:25am: Crazy hat lady to her handler (a beefy young man who follows her everywhere): "They don't even know my name! This is bad." She is wearing a Comme des Garçons soccer ball dress, though, so let's give her that.

10:30am: A good number of empty seats because of the hour, especially after the Marc Jacobs party.

10:32am: Now it's really filling up. Joe Zee is wearing a gray suit today. OMG drama! Kate Lanphear's seat has been taken by a long-haired blonde.

10:35am: It's started! Crisp white tops.

10:39am: Oooh, a dramatic, swishy black evening gown.

10:46am: And it's ending. They just came out.
