Our friends over at Racked NY are currently in the thick of New York Fashion Week, and we'll be posting some highlights of their coverage. This time around: Innovative but accessible looks from Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Show location: The Lexington Avenue Armory
The skinny: Fun and sexy, outrageous colors, hip but accessible, where fashion meets street—you know when a piece is Marc by Marc, and there's a reason guys and girls around the world always buy the crap out of it.
Celebs spotted: Editorial take over: Joe Zee, Kate Lanphear, Lynn Yeager?Plus Brad Goreski from The Rachel Zoe Project and Bryanboy.
The takeaway: Marc by Marc managed to bring color into an otherwise pretty grim spring! The collection included blousy, party dresses and belted jumpsuits in over-sized polka dots and a gigantic leopard print; and dresses and mens' shirting in tribal and Africana prints. Jade greens, rich yellows, teals, magentas, and orange-reds for candy-striped, cinched shifts and piped, acid paisley-paneled party dresses. Rugby striped, thick cable knits; red and black tartan trenches and motorcycle jackets; short jersey shorts with low side pockets; tiny jewel-toned tartan suits for four-eyed boys. Girls had massive little-girl bows in their hair and rocked high-waisted ankle-grazers and shrunken, light denim blazers with metallic handbags and flats, flats, flats. A fun and funky collection with snatches of urban and athletic influences as well as the standard, tongue-in-cheek Marc take on society-wear for Downtowners.
3:50pm: In line at Marc. Lots of photo bloggers from Asia. Fashion writer Lynn Yeager just arrived in her "Baby Lynnie" track jacket and caused a stir.
3:55pm: They're making Lynn Yeager wait in line. Bryanboy, however, is front row, wearing a belted silk blouse and a straw hat.
4:00pm: Place is massive. We are standing, obviously.
4:10pm: They're playing Missy Elliott and the place is filling up. Lorenzo sighting!
4:12pm: Cobrasnake is here fondling girls' necklaces.
4:23pm: Lots of people are wearing Marc stuff. Kate Lanphear just got here.
4:26pm: Starting! Huge leopard printed tees, metallic bags.
4:29pm: Reds, yellows, Africana prints. Beastie Boys just came on!
4:30pm: Crazy geometric prints and knits, skinny colored denim, outsized jumpsuits, Fair Isle on acid.
4:32pm: Harem capri pants, prints on prints, models in flats.
4:33pm: '90s prep colored, vests, nylon tartan motorcycle jackets. Wide ribbon belts, trenches, oversized cable knit, zippers everywhere, kangaroo pockets. Gym shorts with piping on boys. Cropped quilted men's sweatshirts! '90s streetwear influences! Tribal prints!
4:40pm: Done. It was great. Marc came out in a kilt, of course. Walking out, saw Brad from Rachel Zoe in the front row and passed Joe Zee outside.
