New York Fashion Week: Charlotte Ronson

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Our friends over at Racked NY are currently in the thick of New York Fashion Week, and we'll be posting some highlights of their coverage. This time around: contemporary femininity with a downtown streak from Charlotte Ronson

Show location: The Promenade at Bryant Park
The skinny: Of-the-moment hipster fashion from a designer whose entire family (not to mention social circle) is made up of celebrities
Celebs spotted: All of them? Nickie Hilton, Russell Simmons, Erin Wasson, Byrdie Bell, Brooklyn Decker, Erin Lucas, Kate Lanphear and Joe Zee from Elle, Sarah Lefler from Paris store Colette, Amerie, Tinsley Mortimer, Mark Ronson, Samantha Ronson, sister Annabelle Ronson walking the runway...
The takeaway: Every trend for spring was represented, not to mention every trend for fall, from strong shoulders to leather shorts to pantlessness to sheer, shredded bike shorts worn as bottom layers. There was also an Olsen-esque headgear situation going on: Many of the models wore headbands (Rambo-style, not Gossip Girl-style) and several had on strange, sheer nun's wimples.

1:47pm: We're here for the Charlotte Ronson show to open its doors to the audience. So far, so good.

1:48pm: Whoa! Just watched woman in heels wipe out on the stairs, and they weren't even that high of heels.

1:55pm: More excitement: we just saw a guy with a Star Lounge pass (a backstage lounge, that doesn't get you show access) attempt to sneak into the Ronson show. Who does that?!

1:57pm: And two more people attempt to slide from the backstage Star Lounge route into the Ronson route. We are guarding this ticket and seat assignment hardcore.

2:01pm: Alright we're in the tent, and already we see dandy Patrick MacDonald and that crazy hat lady (this one)

2:05pm: Swag report: bags of hairspray, Milani nail polish like what they sell at Duane Reade, and two tubes of red lipstick.

2:09pm: Nicki Hilton is here...but it's hard to tell because abyss of flashbulbs around her.

2:15pm: Okay the crowd is packed with skinny blondes we don't recognize. For atmosphere? Oh yea, and Russell Simmons...big surprise.

2:20pm: Yet more famous faces: Erin Lucas, Byrdie Bell and Mark Ronson?who will of course be DJing the after-party tonight.

2:27pm: There must be some kind of height requirement in order to sit front row at Charlotte Ronson; it's populated with Amazons. Average height is like 6'2"

2:30pm: The crowds part for Erin Wasson, who you'd think would be crazy busy prepping for her own RVCA show tonight at 8pm.

2:36pm We spy Elle's Kate Lanphear and Joe Zee. And the show is starting!

2:38pm Leather jackets and headbangs...hello '90s again?

2:39pm Continuous parade of headbands. Clothing is all white and grey; no color...YET.

2:41pm: Amidst the lights and music, we spot Sarah Lefler from Paris store Colette, and Ronson sister Annabelle walking the runway while Samantha DJs. Clothing is now all pointy shoulders, and shorts over more sheer black shorts.

2:45pm: Leather shorts, leather shorts, leather shorts. Do we want to wear leather shorts next spring? If we didn't want to this last spring, then no.

2:47pm: Even more leather is being trotted out in the form of obi-type belts.

2:50pm: And it's over! Stay tuned for the full photogallery and review while we fight our way out of the tents.
