Our friends over at Racked NY are currently in the thick of New York Fashion Week, which kicked off yesterday morning. We'll be posting some highlights of their coverage, but for the full scoop, click here
Show location: The Tent at Bryant Park
The skinny: Body-conscious cocktail dresses for starlets
Celebs spotted: Anna Wintour, Nina Garcia, Leigh Lezark, Amanda Bynes, Solange Knowles
The takeaway: Tight, draped, mostly one-shouldered dresses in vibrant prints and bright shades like hot pink and acid green. Between the colors and the many mesh panels, it all sort of looked inspired by Speedo, and all of it would be perfect to wear to a movie premiere.
10:00am: Alright, this is it; we waited in what will probably be the briefest line of the day, since it's 10AM on a Thursday, and we're in the main Tent for the BCBG show.
10:05am: The show is supposed to start at 10am, but that doesn't mean anything. We see empty seats marked for Amanda Bynes and Alexandra Richards.
10:10am: No freebies at the first show of the week; will this be the standard?
10:19am: We're facing Anna Wintour; girl had to wake up early this morning, we bet.
10:20am: Anna is chatting with a perfectly turned-out blonde girl and guy in Harry Potter glasses behind her.
10:25am: Leigh Lezark spotted with a short new haircut. She is also texting like crazy, but then again, so are we.
10:28am: Bynes has taken her seat and the crowd is getting very excited. Lezark is laughing hysterically at something (our liveblogging about her, maybe?)
10:30am: OK it's starting! Lots of draping and very vibrant pink colors.
10:34am: We spy a print that like a floral crossed with a high school geometry class. Everything thus far is very body conscious.
10:39am: So much pink in sheer panels and a plethora of one-shoulder dresses.
10:41am: First runway song report! They are playing "Careless Whisper" by
George Michael Seether (a cover). Will Fashion Week hold more George Michael? We hope so.
10:42am: It's over, but the music continues to pound. Stay tuned for a full photo gallery!
10:47am: We just met a reporter here from The Huffington Post. They cover Fashion Week? Who knew?!
