CFDA / Vogue Fashion Fund nominee and local shoe designer George Esquivel is working on his biggest commission yet—a shoe that will eventually sell for $70,000. The pair has been over a year in the making, and the designer tells All the Rage that he still has more work to do. "For my part, the $70,000 shoe was already done, but [the client] wanted more stuff on it. They wanted more jewels, but I don't know where to put more jewels," he says, adding "It could be a two-year process...It's not about 'hurry up, let's sell the shoes.' It's true luxury." Yet Esquivel is quick to note that these projects are few and far between, and that his core client is "the regular guy who's coming in and buying all the time"—presumably for less than a five-figure price tag.
