The Barneys Warehouse Sale kicked off at 8am today at the LA Convention Center, and a special Racked correspondent is on the scene to document the madness. She's braved the line, took an account of the scene inside, and now she's delving deeper into the deals at hand. Stay tuned for constant updates as the morning unfolds:
8:30: Checking out the wallets and coin purses, $29 for an orange coin purse or a creme small buckled handbag. $199 for a soft navy Jas M B oversized tote bag that was originally $535. None too shabby.
8:35: One mom gives her young daughter the duty of carrying her overstuffed plastic bag with clothes. So that's why the grownups bring the kids.
8:37: Kiki de Montparnasse discounted from $450 to $135? I think so!
8:42: People are totally oblivious to one another, as they gather their goods. Wait, are they playing that theme song from' Top Gun'? Triumph maybe?
8:45: Some highlights in womenswear: Diane Von Furstenburg white silk blouse, $245 marked down to $75, Marc by Marc Jacobs poinsettia red jacket, originally $398, now $99, Marc by Marc Jacobs khaki shorts, $168, now $39
8:50: Wait, now women are dressing and running around the place to Flash Dance's 'What a Feeling.' Hmm.
8:52: Also just spotted: 3.1 Phillip Lim navy sleeveless blouse, $225, now $139. More Diane von furstenberg, Theory and Madras dresses. $99 to $300-ish range
9:00: A few more scores: Balenciaga black silk dress, $559 - orig $1,795 and Alexander Wang silk/cotton dress, $174, orig $575 and cute Rogan grey/turquoise shift dress, $104, orig $288 and striped green Juicy Couture sweater for $39 buckaroos.
9:03: One girl sits among her scattered heels on the sidelines. I'm suddenly reminded of when lions drag their kill away from the pack to protect it.
9:05: Over in shoes, the whole gang is here, Manolo, Alaia, Prada, Christian Louboutin and even a pair of strappy silver Fendi sandals ($213). Also spotted some floral Bottega Veneta sandals($434), patent Balenciaga heels ($401) and Fendi lace-ups ($361)...yep, all mine.
9:10: The women's shoe section has magically turned into an open dressing room. Girls, desperate to find the perf pair, are hobbling between their flat shoes they wore and a lavish designer heeled one.
9:15: Oh crap. Just tripped and stepped on green jeweled Manolo Blahniks - will Candace Bushnell come after me?
9:17: Update on Mr. Jogging Shorts: looks like he snagged a pair of silver shoes in men's shoe section. Go boy.
9:20: All I'm hearing is the rustling from filled plastic bags. It feels just like Halloween, except instead of Goobers folks got Givenchy in their bags.
9:39: As you can see from the photo, pretty major line at the registers. No matter where you are, lines always suck.
9:45: Over in menswear, just spotted Michael Kors and Ermenegildo Zegna suits marked down $499 and $999 (originally $2,195 and $998)
9:55: Also for the guys: Alexander Mqueen sweatshirt for $133 and Dior maroon sweatshirt for $159. Helmut Lang collared shirts for $129.. Plus, tons of $100 Phillip Lim collared shirts and tees.
10:00: One last line check before we sign off—I'm thinking over 100 folks are already in line. At least they're bringing in more cashiers, according to one security guard.
