Above the Fray: Steven Alan Sample Sale Preview

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

To help you prepare your strategy for the Steven Alan sample sale, which starts tomorrow at 8:30am, we stopped by this afternoon for a preview. The sale is actually divided into two separate spaces—they've rented out the boutique next to Hillhurst Ave.'s Steven Alan Outpost to house all the other featured designers. But according to staffers at the scene, the multi-designer space will only be open for the first three days of the sale, so plan your trip accordingly.

GENTLEMEN—Some of the best deals are in the menswear department, with shirts starting at $58, blazers starting at $35, trousers at around $65 and sweaters at $55. Over in the other room, you'll find lots of Rogan and Loomstate stock, like tees from $25, and jeans and jackets for around $77. Plus, there's an entire wall of shoes by The Generic Man and a rack of shirts by Sophomore.

LADIES—If the guys have the better deals, women have the bigger selection. Think silk dresses, sweaters, tunics and pants from $65, sailor shorts for $38, undies for $15, and, naturally, those perfect button-downs starting at $48. Plus, the multi-designer room is pretty much dedicated to womenswear, with things like Spring & Clifton collection pieces from around $50, Sophomore tees and sweats starting at $20, linen shorts and dresses by Hyden Yoo from $40, and cut-price accessories by Sunshine & Shadow and Jack Rabbit Collection.
