Launches and Releases: eLuxury, Trivia Master

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Not even 24 hours after shutting down its e-commerce arm, former online shopping destination eLuxury has risen again—sort of. WWD reported last week that the site would relaunch on Saturday with a question of the day, one which turns out to be supplemented with links to related content via Twitter and Facebook. For instance, today website viewers are asked to vote on whether they prefer a 'Dirty Martini' or a 'Virgin Mary', with martini trivia from around the 'net simultaneously streamed on the eLuxury Twitter feed. (e.g.: a link to the recipe for James Bond's Vesper martini).

According to a blurb on the site, this appears to be a kind of holding strategy while more in-depth content is developed in the coming weeks and months. The site is expected to officially relaunch as a full-scale social media portal in early 2010, incorporating "unique, original content created by a global team of curators, contributors and users," spanning everything from fashion to art, food to design and beyond. Meanwhile, rest assured that the brains behind eLuxury will keep will keep us entertained with other sites' interviews, YouTube clips, and oh-so-thought provoking poll questions.
