We don't really find this likely, but it did make us sit up and take notice: Uniqlo's talking about buying the Gap. Sort of. In an article in the UK Independent, the CEO of Uniqlo's parent company (and Japan's richest man) Tadashi Yanai says, "In Europe and the US it is not realistic to establish hundreds or thousands of new stores solely via our own efforts, so we want to buy a big chain business." When the Independent asks whether that business is the Gap, Yanai says it's "'within the scope' of the names he might be after." Even if it's not the Gap, this could be big. [Independent]
