Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In much the same way as the over-the-knee clog, Nine West wants to make this fall the season of chunky shoes and inexplicable design choices. As part of their Vintage America collection, you can expect over-the-knee industrial-type leather boots and slouchy suede booties a la Annie Oakley.
In addition, they'll be drenching sites like YouTube and Facebook with the campaign for the items, even getting tfolk singer Miranda Lee Richards in on the action.
PR Week:
The contest, hosted on YouTube, will launch in mid-July and task consumers with uploading a song that represents the brand. Richards will announce finalists at a shopping event at the brand's New York City Fifth Avenue store. The team will also ask attendees to bring in gently worn shoes to donate to Soles4Souls.Although it's unclear what the prize for best song will be?maybe the whole shoe collection??we'll doubtless hear all about it from Facebook and Twitter. Because we apparently don't see enough worn-in suede clogs at thrift stores.
