Neighborhood Watch: Booze, Boots and B-Movies in Los Feliz

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Every so often, we like to zoom in on one particular neighborhood to examine what's happening on the retail front. Today, we take you to Los Feliz, which is proving buzzy as ever, recession be damned:

VAMP SHOES—Silver Lake's Vamp Shoes is heading west, to the former White Trash Charms space at 1951 Hillhurst Ave. When the new outpost opens on May 1, expect a selection of cute, yet comfy styles from the likes of Rachel Comey, Jeffrey Campbell, Corso Como and Biviel.

JAKE VINTAGE—Over on Hollywood Boulevard, Jonathan Kanarek of Jake Vintage has announced the next instalment of his seminar series, 'A Gentleman's Guide to the Home Bar.' On May 3, 7 Grand mixologist Matt Wallace will be leading a hands-on demo in the fine art of Manhattan-making—and yes, taste-testing will be involved. To get in on the action, e-mail seminars@jakevintage.com or call 323.662.5253.

POP KILLER—In an apparent quest to bring '80s novelty sunglasses and Japanese snacks to every neighborhood in LA, Pop Killer has opened its third outpost at 1856 N. Vermont Ave. Just like its shops in Hollywood and Little Tokyo, this one also carries Pop Killer's own brand tees, vintage boots, Japanese B-movies, keychains, fedoras, rubber owl masks...you get the idea.
