Relocation Report: Many Grand Re-Openings Imminent

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Madison and Diavolina's twin storefronts

Be it for lower rents, higher square footage, or a little bit of both, a handful of LA's most venerable retailers are in the process of relocating to new spaces—and, in some cases, to totally new neighborhoods. We decided to check in on their progress, and found that all shop swaps involved are just days away from their big reveals.

Madison and Diavolina: As we reported in December, the sister shops are deserting their Robertson posts and moving to a double storefront on the northeast corner of West 3rd and Robertson. The new space was abuzz with construction workers yesterday, and a peek through the papered windows revealed considerably more spacious digs than the siblings currently occupy. Confirming signage heralding an April move, a Madison staffer told us the new shops—and their very own parking lot—should be open "in about two weeks."

Scout: Back in January, we learned Scout would be moving from its West 3rd Street abode to 1646 N. Cherokee Avenue in Hollywood, just south of Hollywood Boulevard. In an e-mail sent yesterday, owner Joey Grana told us Scout's new home will be opening next Tuesday, April 7, almost on target with the original announcement of a March launch. When we strolled by last night, we saw lots of white—white facade, white furniture, white potted plants—kind of a departure from the old shop's library-like decor.

Welcome Hunters: We reported last week that Welcome Hunters' move, to a space beside Choose Chinatown on Gin Ling Way, was due to be complete on April 1. But delays hit, as they usually do when moving is involved, and co-owner Robin Cervar is now expecting the shop to re-open by this Saturday at the latest.
