Gelson's in Hollywood Finally Takes the Mayfair Sign Down

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

For more than seven years, Gelson's grocery store in Hollywood has been operating a giant sign that reads "Mayfair Market." This isn't exactly wrong, since Mayfair and Gelson's are owned by the same company, but it's not exactly right either, Mayfair not being in any way the name of that particular supermarket. Yesterday, the company finally made the switch, and an intrepid (obsessive?) tipster photographed the historic occasion. Enjoy the sign-swapping magic, above.
