Above the Fray: Ravaged Rails Await at Erin Wasson's Garage Sale

The scene after five minutes

We were fully expecting chaos at Erin Wasson's garage sale, but we never would have expected the rails to be fully cleared within minutes after the doors opened. But that was exactly the scene this morning, as a mob of model types and bargain hunters stormed a rack full of designer delights, all priced at $100 or less.

Luckily, the racks started to fill up again as shoppers tried things on. When we left at noon, it was mostly the higher-priced items that were left—dresses by Peter Pilotto, Acne and Jovovich-Hawk for $100, a vintage-looking black sequinned sheath dress for $60, and jeans by James, YSL and Ksubi for around $50—along with a handful of tees for around $10. Aside from a few wrinkles and some dog hair (for which Wasson profusely apologized), everything was in good condition.

"I didn't expect it all to go so quickly," Wasson told us, adding that shoppers started to line up outside at 9:30am. She went on to say that although some of the sale items had sentimental value — like a pair of Balenciaga shoes personally given to her by Nicolas Ghesquiere that were sold almost instantly — she cleared her closet of everything she hadn't worn in six months, and the whole process was "really cathartic." Not to mention that it's for a good cause — as we mentioned yesterday, all proceeds will benefit the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the largest organization of its kind in the US.

The sale is scheduled to last until 6pm, but judging by the state of the racks when we left, we highly doubt the rest of the wares will last that long. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth stopping by — but be warned that the street parking is a nightmare, so leave yourself extra time to find a spot.
