The Location: BOXEight Fashion Week at the Los Angeles Theatre
The Skinny: Laeken's Mallyce Miller was named one of Gen Art's Fresh Faces for 2008, and this was her first major solo outing since their group show last fall. Her line is a little bit street, a little bit artsy, and incorporates organic fabrics when possible.
Celebs Spotted: Again, no one that we recognized, but the Conde Nast presence in the front row was the strongest we'd seen all day.
The Takeaway: Following show after show of moody black and grey numbers, Laeken's explosion of pattern and color was like a big, icy gulp of $5 water. Marbled silks, plaid flannels, batik chiffons and more were rendered in a cheerful palette of electric blues, shocking reds and fuschias. Some of the attempts at pattern-mixing were a little questionable, as was a dress with a massive ombre bow padding the derriere, but we'd be happy to have just about any of these pieces in our closet.
