There's not much that will get us out of bed at 8am on a Saturday, but anything involving Society for Rational Dress has a pretty good chance of making the cut. So just hours after viewing designer Corinne Grassini's Fall 2009 collection at Gen Art's fashion week presentation, we were on our way to preview her new appointment-only boutique, Reserve.
Officially debuting today, the shop is filled with one-of-a-kind creations, past and current season samples, and archive pieces that have been re-interpreted into something new. Along with the one-off chainlink vests we raved about last night, Grassini showed us a series of mottled tanks that had been overdyed to create new hues, tees with added belts and distressing, and a line of 2006's jazz flats reproduced in custom colors just for Reserve. Even the furniture has been re-purposed - everything from the racks to the tables and seating was made from 19th century wood beams removed during the remodel.
Behind a curved, Richard Serra-esque concrete wall (designed by Grassini herself) lies the studio, where customers will be able to see the design process up close. The space will also double as a sample sale venue, and Grassini mentioned that there might be a rack back there today, when the store opens its doors to the public from 10am-5pm. Trust us - it's worth the interruption to your lazy Saturday.
