First Look: Trovata and Apartment Number 9 Bring Great Lakes to BH

As we reported earlier this week, Apartment Number 9's Amy and Sarah Blessing are dedicating their Beverly Hills outpost to a rotating series of labels-in-residence. The first honoree, Trovata, is set to unveil its first LA pop-up shop this evening, and we were lucky enough to get a sneak peak while the last button-downs were being hung.

For the next two months, the intimate space will act as a living mood board for the brand's spring collection, which was inspired by the idyllic Great Lakes region in the 1960s. "We wanted to do something unique to showcase the complete brand and its inspirations," says Trovata founder John Whitledge, who likened the process to curating a gallery show. The shop's walls have been dotted with found objects from the Trovata studio—boat shoes, a Polaroid camera, a vintage issue of Playboy, oars from an old rowboat—while quotes sewn into the garments' sleeves have been splashed across the wall. And while we can never get enough preppy ephemera, our favorite detail was the set of wooden chairs upholstered in Trovata fabrics, handmade by the Blessings especially for the shop's big reveal.

Although the boutique is usually dedicated to menswear, the Trovata pop-up will carry both the men's and women's collections in their entirety, along with limited edition sunglasses, ties, cufflinks and books. "When we saw the line for the first time, out of a suitcase, it was obviously about so much more than just a few shirts," says Sarah Blessing. "John pulls so much inspiration from quotes, literature, and the world around him, and seeing the whole picture brings the label to life in a new way."
