Above the Fray: Foley + Corinna, Going Fast

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Fans of all things sequined, beaded and pleated—or, on a more subdued note, oversized leather totes—will have no shortage of pieces to fall in love with at this weekend's Foley + Corinna sample sale. We scoped out the first hour of the event, which runs from today through Sunday, and judging by the merch on offer we'd be surprised if there was much left by weekend's end.

The majority of the space was filled with tops and dresses, ranging from $123 for sequinned kaftans and capelets to $193 for beaded flapper-style shift dresses. There were also plenty of unembellished chiffon and cotton jersey cocktail dresses to be had, with prices falling around the $150 mark. One small rack of vintage was hiding in the back, but the garments were pretty much indistinguishable from F + C's own-brand pieces.

As for the bags, tons of styles and colors were represented, but quantities of each one seemed a little limited. Prices ranged from $113 for a Little Treat evening bag to $388 for an L Train duffel, with most averaging out at around $200. Most of the shoppers seemed to be congregating around the bag tables, and a salesperson confirmed that the items on display were pretty much all they had. Translation: bag fiends should probably make an appearance ASAP.
