Within the next few months, Cavern, Cerre and Scout are set to open up shop within a block of each other in Hollywood. We stopped by this afternoon to scope out the neighborhood, a low-key oasis in the midst of tourist-clogged Hollywood Boulevard.
Per a recent announcement, Cavern's illustrated tees and Cerre's lush leather goods will soon share adjoining storefronts at 1645-7 North Las Palmas, next door to Antebellum Gallery and across the street from Les Deux. One side of the space was nearly empty, while the other, presumably Cerre's side due to a smattering of fringed leather bags and vests, showed a few more signs of life. The decor appears to be suitably rustic - weathered wood floors, imposing wood-and-iron shelving, steer skull guarding the window - but with a few unexpected artifacts mixed in, like Asian pottery and some colorful tunics hanging from the shelves. The official opening date still hasn't been set, but the original announcement slated it for this month.
A block away, at 1646 N. Cherokee, former West 3rd denizen Scout is due to re-open in March. The windows were papered over, but we were able to make out a mostly empty, high-ceilinged space with a steep staircase leading up to a sort of balcony level. Most of the surrounding storefronts are vacant, so we'll be interested to see if any more intrepid fashion types colonize the area in the coming months.
