Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We arrived at 10am, and there were already about 350 women (and a few good-natured dudes) in line at the Monique Lhuillier sample sale. The ladies at the front of the line had been there since 4am. Think about it: it's cold, it's downtown LA, and you're spending the night parked out in front of a building waiting for the opportunity, the possibility, the hope?talk about devotion! Also on site was that rolling diet anathema, the Sweets Truck. Aren't brides-to-be always trying to lose 10 pounds? Maybe that's why there weren't a lot of takers. Though the offerings certainly looked delish. Extreme brownies, anyone?
