We should remember to heed the old adage about the early bird getting the worm. After all, who wants worms? Especially when Umami Burgers are promised. Such as they were on our invite to the Space 15 Twenty first-year anniversary party. We entered at 7:30; while there were a good number of shoppers taking advantage of the 20% discount, the party hadn't actually started to happen. We kicked around, sifted through the Urban Outfitters sale bins, checked out design books at Hennessey + Ingalls. Other engagements forced us to leave—sadly without having seen any party antics or getting any free stuff.
It's been a year of ups and downs for the Space, already having lost Alife and the Snak Bar. They could use some merchandising diversity, since We The Free and Shoes + Shoes + Shoes + Bags are basically extensions of Urban Outfitters. But we're glad the Space is open, and we hope they blossom in 2010.
