Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In LA, we don't really have the knock-down, drag-out sample sales that are the staples for our sister site Racked. The closest thing is the madness at the big post-holiday sales, like this one at Saks on Saturday morning (a.k.a. the day after Christmas). The deal that had these normally well-heeled women clawing and shoving and being grabby-handed? 50% off already reduced sale prices: Loubs for $200, Miu Mius for $180, and Prada boots for $250. The photos of the racks looking decidedly skeletal? Are from 10 minutes after the doors opened. No, we didn't manage to get anything; we'd love to hear from you if you did—and most importantly, how long you had to wait to get your shoes and check out.
