Teenagers are growing up and taking the current recession with a shocking display of maturity... and it's killing the economy. Sales are down at retail stores catering to the teenage demographic, such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Hot Topic, Zumiez and American Eagle Outfitters. A record high teenage unemployment rate and parents putting forth a good example at "cutting back" have made teenage clothing and accessories stores the worst-performing sector in all of retailing. Can't we get Miley Cyrus to do some PSAs about the fun of being irresponsible? [NYT]
