A Warehouse Sale Without the Warehouse

We just happened to be driving in the neighborhood and got distracted by the sign. Naturally, we had to check it out. This sale is at a private residence in Silver Lake: it's the contents of a store called Maude Carrin that closed last year. Though it's a few seasons behind, the merchandise is impeccable: almost all of it with tags, and many pieces still wrapped in plastic. The selection includes Ben Sherman, Le Tigre, Dolce Vita shoes?we even saw a few Anzevino & Florence pieces in one of the bargain bins. Lots and lots of coats. They're really desperate to get rid of it, and we heard several shoppers talk their way into great deals. They're open tomorrow, staring at about noon. And since it's outside, under a sunny sky—with Elliott Smith tunes playing in the background, and dogs and kids frolicking underfoot—it makes one hell of a great alternative to shlepping around some mall looking for gifts.
