We just learned the the Borders at 330 South La Cienega, across the street from Loehmann's, will be closing in mid-January, due to increases in rent. So sad. We wonder who will eventually move in to the 24,000 square foot space. The area is a haven for discounters and retail outlets: besides Loehmann's, there's the Nordstrom Rack, the Loehmann's Men's Store, Marhsalls, and an imminent Ross. In this day and age, it really is a minor tragedy to lose another bookstore, but we can always hope something good will step in to take its place. [Blackburn and Sweetzer]
