Now Open: Echo Park's Future Looks a Lot Like a Familiar Past

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

It's oddly appropriate that we ran a picture of a DeLorean last night, since we're taking you back to the Future, in Echo Park. The little store just opened at 1814 Sunset, and it's right down the block from Two Boots pizza, Origami Vinyl, and the Echo Park Time Travel Mart (oh, the irony).

The store isn't entirely retro. Besides the Yo! MTV Raps bubblegum and Doc Martens, they carry some good contemporary lines, like Cheap Monday, Alternative Apparel, and MinkPink. They have some great graphic tees, and their standard issue Alternative Apparel shlubby burnout tees are a steal at $18. And they have an impressive collection of tschotskies and late 80s/early 90s relics: it feels like this store could evolve into a more Americana version of the store PopKiller. If you've got 80s/90s-era fetishists on your Christmas list, this is definitely your starting point.
