Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
As consummate shoppers, we're always a little sad when we look in the closet and spy some of the garments that have lost their perceived luster. Though we got bored with them after only one or two wearings, we know these items would still excite other ladies.
Hello, thredUP!
It's a new service that combines bits of NetFlix, eBay and Bag, Borrow or Steal. thredUP uses a sophisticated system to match you and your closet contents with other thredUPpers (based on criteria like size, style and brand) to facilitate swapping, via prepaid envelope a la NetFlix.
They're offering a special "green Friday" trial, giving you three envelopes for $5 (as opposed to the normal fee of $25). To take advantage, enter the promo code GREENFRIDAY at checkout.
But, BUT!
We here at Racked are going to give the program a whirl for ourselves, and for the benefit of all you readers. Check out thredup.com for yourself, or check here for our report.
