Next Wednesday, put on your best ruffled cardigan, pour some tea into your daintiest mug, and settle into your most whimsical chair for the debut of Man Shops Globe, Anthropologie's foray into television. We had ourselves a lovely time at the Man Shops Globe premiere party on Tuesday, but we didn't catch much of the show itself, so we dug up some clips from the Sundance Channel website.
Initial impression: Man Shops Globe, in which Anthropologie buyer Keith Johnson travels the world looking for artifacts for the store's displays, is a clever alliance of travel porn and furniture porn, and it could be big for the brand. Johnson doesn't stand out as a reality TV persona quite yet, but that could be a good thing, since it keeps the focus on the company's signature cozy-exotic style. In the video above, he hunts down a bonkers flowered chandelier in South America; we were also partial to this clip, in which Johnson learns the history of a brilliantly-colored Uzbek rug. Basically, if the words "brilliantly-colored Uzbek rug" cause your heart to beat a little faster in your chest, then this is a show for you.—Izzy Grinspan
