The salmonella outbreak currently raging across the country has led stores to recall 125 products—everything from Clif Bars to dog biscuits. The problem is contaminated peanut butter, which gets used in all sorts of processed foods (did we mention the dog biscuits?), a list that now includes a whole host of items carried by our very own Trader Joe's. According to a statement released by the company, they've destroyed five of their self-branded peanut-buttery snacks and stopped selling another nine by other brands. If you've bought anything on the list, you can bring it back for a full refund.
From the Trader Joe's statement:
We have been alerted by our suppliers of Trader Joe’s Celery with Peanut Butter, Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter Chewy Coated & Drizzled Granola Bars, Trader Joe’s Nutty Chocolate Chewy Coated & Drizzle Granola Bars, Trader Joe’s Sliced Green Apples with All Natural Peanut Butter and Trader Joe’s Sutter’s Formula Cookies* (*only sold in our SoCal, AZ, NM and NV stores) that there is a possibility that these products may cause a serious food-borne illness. As a precaution, all of these products have been removed from sale and destroyed. They've also pulled the following non-Trader Joe's items:
Clif Bar Builders Peanut Butter
Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch
Clif Bar Crunchy Peanut Butter
Clif Bar Peanut Toffee Buzz
Lara Bar Jamfrakas Peanut Butter BlissCrisp
Lara Bar Peanut Butter
