Above the Fray: For Your Free Lawsuit Makeup, Head Directly to Beverly Center

As Fashionista informed us, several major department stores are giving away free cosmetics starting today, as the result of a class-action lawsuit over pricing. We dropped by a few participating LA retailers to check out the scene. Each customer is entitled to one freebie, but most of our line-mates seemed willing to risk visiting multiple stores to score multiple products (not that we'd necessarily advise it—customers are required to sign a release form at each store.)

Macy's, Beverly Center, 11am: Pretty quiet—only about 20 people in total, divided into lines according to product wanted. We scored a Lancome Fatale Mascara, and were in and out of the line in less than five minutes.

Bloomingdales, Beverly Center, 11:30am: Significantly longer line—it took us about five minutes to get through. According to a staffer working the table, they're anticipating supply to be gone by the end of today. We walked away with a tube of Clarins Energizing Morning Cream, although it seems to be a little smaller than full-sized.

Nordstrom, The Grove, 12:00pm: Line is even longer—we were waiting for about ten minutes, probably due to the fact that, unlike at the Beverly Center stores, there's just one line for all products. A staffer manning the line said that the event could potentially last up to a week, but that, "judging by the turnout, we'll probably be sold out by the end of the day." (Keep in mind that the store closes at 7pm tonight for inventory.) We finally ended up getting a jar of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle Body Lotion.—Erin Magner
