Saturday night marked the opening of Abbot Kinney new kid, Milkmade. Drinks and apps a flowin’, the crowd was modest but steady while we shopped the merch, most of which is marked down 50% to make way for new fall arrivals. Store owner Brian Lee told Racked he chose to open here because “it’s a great street, a lot of the stores are owner operated. I guess we’re trying to bring a slightly different aesthetic, something a little edgier. We carry brands that aren’t repped on this side, so now they all have a chance to be future vintage.”
Edgy indeed. We loved the brown leather Stori handbag with blue metallic floral details and the Killikili layered dress. We were slightly skeptical when we saw the Wuquyu dresses were one size fits all, until we caught glimpse of a happy shopper emerge from the fitting room in the black and grey high-waisted number which could have been tailor made for her. And don’t feel out of the loop if you don’t recognize some of the labels—many are exclusive to Milkmade.
