Street Scenes Circa 1973: LACMA Celebrates 'LA Flash' Again

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Thirty-five years ago, LACMA commissioned five photogs—David Alexander, Lester Sloan, Annette Del Zoppo, Peter Kredenser, and Don Peterson—to chronicle LA street style, culminating in the exhibit 'LA Flash.' The museum is revisiting the project once again, with the same name and a shutterbug fest this Saturday, September 6 from 8pm-11pm. The original 'LA Flash' will be projected outside, and photographers from Wireimage will be on hand taking attendees pics to capture current street style, which will then be added to the museum's archives at DJ, art tours, book signings and more to round off the night. $10/ticket.
