Jet over to the Barneys New York Warehouse Sale at Santa Monica Airport for a flight of fancy: upon entry, we immediately bee-lined for the shoes and found sinful amounts of Prada and Manolo heels in the $200-$600 range. Despite a multitude of basic leather pumps and glitzy formal numbers like bridesmaid shoes, we found a smattering of fab styles in sizes 37-39.5.
At the accessories table we discovered tons of dull-ish black Barneys handbags (over)priced at $179, as well as an ‘as is’ Derek Lam purse marked down from $1800 to $500 (score!). Clothing-wise, we spotted a $5500 Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress marked down to $1300, which was snatched up by a pushy shopper before we could inspect it further (RUDE!). Hasn't anyone ever heard of sample sale karma?
For men, we scoped hundreds of suits (a lot of Hugo Boss, Michael Kors and Burberry) for about $500-$600 and tops like James Perse in the $80 range. Denim for both men and women will sets shoppers back between $50-$150.
Shoppers are rushed of course, but the hangar's roominess keeps people from colliding into other bargain hunters (minus the D&G thief--So wrong!). And Barneys' staff def kicks ass at keeping everything hanged and folded, so there's less frantic digging involved.
As we were leaving, a Fed Ex truck was unloading even more goodies! Barneys usually slashes prices even more as the sale progresses, so there's still plenty of discount designer items to discover--hopefully with no thieves in sight. [Racked Wire]
