No Trader Joe's for Rancho Palos Verdes

Residents of Rancho Palos Verdes are really bummed they're not getting a Trader Joe's. A new Joe's was supposed to be coming to the Golden Cove Center at Hawthorne Boulevard and Palos Verdes Drive West, in the closed down Golden Lotus Restaurant space, but ultimately height issues/view impairments killed the project. The Palos Verdes Peninsula News reports that the Planning Commission thought the project could go forward if the "project were redesigned and the building height lowered about eight feet." Property owner Paris Zarrabian decided he couldn't afford the time it would take to complete the store, having already been stalled for 18 months and pulled out, noting "his staff has received 'hundreds' of voicemail messages and e-mails about the scrapped Trader Joe’s plan." RPV-ers will have to continue to go to Torrance and Redondo Beach to get their TJ's. [Palos Verdes Peninsula News]
