Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Independent bookstore Skylight Books on Vermont in Los Feliz has opened its second shop Skylight Books 1814 next door (named for the address), which features art, architecture, design, music, film, fashion, theatre and magazines. The high-ceilinged open space has cleared room in the original bookshop, making it much easier to browse the racks. The new store's grand opening event is this Saturday, August 30, which sales staff said will start around 3pm.
In other Skylight Books news, the original store is getting a new retail kitty after the sad passing of Lucy. Her name is Sophie and, apparently, staffers have already made her acquaintance and think she has just the right retail temperament. Sophie may be making her debut as early as this Friday. And for those that still miss ol' Luce, Skylight sells cards for $4, featuring the orange cat sprawled out in the window, shot by Dauna Whitehead.
