This sounds like it warrants a trip across town if need be. The Pipeline reports that the Smockshop is hitting Chinatown Sunday, July 27 through Sunday, September 21. Created by LA-based artist Andrea Zittel, the org takes a Zittel-made pattern for a simple smock and has "groups of artists made their own version of the smock, creating ever-expanding collection of altered, adorned shifts. These one-of-a-kind pieces have been hawked all over the country in a series of temporary shops."
Proceeds go to artists whose work in not yet self-sustaining or not commercial—or probably both in many cases. The couple-month run "will offer up video-art presentations and performances along with the spruced-up smocks." Smockshop will be located at 936 Mei Ling Way, and be open Wed-Thurs noon-4, Fri-Sun noon-8pm.
