Queen of Scents

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Adding to the list of endorsements, including Cover Girl and intimate apparel Curvation, Queen Latifah has signed a deal with Parlux Fragrances Inc. Per WWD, the scent will debut in fall '09 in the U.S. and then roll out internationally. This is an attempt for Parlux to widen its market: "According to [Chairman and CEO of Parlux Neil] Katz, the company is hoping to target department store distribution and is aiming at the urban market in addition to middle-aged consumers." On the recording artist/actress, Katz tells the trade: "She's known as a person of great quality by a multicultural audience, and works hard on the business side and understands her role in the marketing of a product she's associated with. She brings a new audience to the Parlux mix." [WWD, subscription req]
