Shepard Fairey Obey Bling

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The graffiti artist behind the Obama tees, has a new project for the ladies. Per Fashionista, Shepard Fairey's latest endeavor is "A collection of hipster jewelry inspired by his iconic OBEY ME prints. The line has necklaces and earrings, and seems inoffensive but still really weird. How can you be protesting mass consumerism and creating it at the same time?" Inspiring people is great and all, but artists have to get paid too...or, as it often goes, at least pay their rent. Who knows what kind of financials Fairey has because of, or despite, his fame.
