Whew! That new name (changed from South Park Flea Market) is a mouthful. Angelenic continues to be very optimistic about the struggling Downtown market: "Artisan stalls, farmer produce stands, live music, fair food vendors, jumping gym for the kiddies, and a picket-fence-lined 'pop up' dog park all clustered together in a parking lot across from the Staples Center marks the big relaunch of the weekly bazaar, which has been struggling to garner steady support since its debut in January."
But then a few sentences down: “'It’s been dead most of the day,' says artist Michelle Caplan who operates a collage portraiture and design booth each week. Sure enough, attendance at Sunday’s market was under-whelming, especially considering the comfortable weather and diverse lineup of vendors present to push their wares." Phillip Dane, who organizes the market, is hoping the Downtown Open House and Dwell on Design show at the convention center will bring some traffic next week.
A Racked reader was not pleased with the move from 8th and Grand in the first place: "I was under the impression that the market was there to service the neighbourhood. Moving it to 11th & Figueroa will ensure that I never go back especially if you're going to start charging admission. Such a shame!"
