Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
First this this morning, we were hit with Shopbop's latest tactic to get us to click-and-buy: A "London Calling" email blast (see after the jump), which says "We're inspired by a certain Brit-born top model's carefree cool. Want to get it? We'll show you how." So, of course, we click on it, which takes us to the page above with a model who looks nothing like Agyness Deyn, but more like Mischa Barton, and says:
"The streets of London beckon. First there's King with its punk history, then Camden High and its alt-cool market. Oxford, Bond, and Regent tempt with their love of designer labels, and Soho's Punk is the new It in London nightlife. Speaking of Its, a certain blond, pixie-coiffed top model has us itching to follow her stylish steps around town. The how-to? Here's a cheat sheet: shot of punky color, leggings, Chucks, Wayfarers, fedora. When London calls, know how to answer."
Apparently, the way to look like Agy, though the etailer never actually spells out her name, is to buy tons of skinny jeans, plus Alexander Wang, Twenty8Twelve and Anna Sui, which we're sure has nothing to do with what merch Shopbop's trying to move at the moment. And that outfit on the Mischa-lookalike? Getting the look will cost you a cool $1,435. The marketing ploy seems to be working though—the Tart leggings are already sold out. Email blast after the jump.
