Russian teen fast fashion phenom Kira Plastinina opened her first store on Robertson Boulevard this past Friday. We checked out the 800-square-foot boutique Saturday to find it bustling with a notably diverse group of shoppers—early-20-somethings to 40-plusers. What surprised us? The merch is youthful and trendy, yes, but there were also items that were a bit more sophisticated—take a 98% silk/2% spandex dress in pale pink or gray that goes for $98. The retailer is also off-setting its fast fashion mass appeal with controlled volume of selections of apparel and accessories; a $58 two-tone metallic handbag is a case in point with only a handful available. Merch runs from around $20-$100, with $48 being a median price.

Expect a lot more Kira Plastinina in LA, too. Per Reggie Grisby, store manager of the Robertson shop, another boutique opens today at 346 North Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills, another opens (he believes) this coming Saturday, May 24 on the 8th floor at the Beverly Center, and another opens at Americana at Brand somewhere around June 17 or 23. Whereas the Robertson and Beverly Hills shops will be smaller and a bit more specialized in terms of selection, the mall locations will be 50% bigger (around 1,200-square-feet) and, as such, will be able to offer more volume.
