Nearly Open: Esquivel Shoes' B.Spoke Off West 3rd Street

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We spotted Esquivel Shoes for the first time in person at one of West 3rd Street's block party's during the last holiday season and were duly impressed with the collection of men's footwear. Designed by George Esquivel from Orange County, the shoes have incredible handcrafted detailing that make you feel each pair is worth the $700 on-up prices. The Los Angeles Times reports that the shoemaker is opening an "appointment-only shop called B.Spoke just off 3rd Street behind Douglas Fir," which, in addition to Esquivel's shoes, bags, wallets and belts "will offer custom-made dress shirts and suits from local designer Waraire Boswell's WB Collection and custom furniture by Viesso."

Expect "meticulously distressed and purposefully wrinkled Italian hides, Norwegian calf leathers, exotic stingray and alligator skins for their luxe loafers, over-the-top Oxfords and bank-breaking boots" from the designer, which reach $1,800 for custom orders. No exact address has been announced, but you can email info@esquivelshoes.com for an appointment. Between DF Feet, Sigerson Morrison and the recent opening of Twenty Two Shoes, the area is really becoming a footwear destination.
