Off-Site Shows: Jared Gold at Union Station

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Leave it to enigmatic designer Jared Gold to bring together catwalkers as eclectic as his collections - count in porn star-cum-"actress/singer/author/director" Traci Lords, major model Tony Ward, Lisa D'Amato of America's Next Top Model, and Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter. Gold showed his spring '08 "Czarina" Black Chandelier line to a public crowd of 1,500 downtown at Union Station, making it immediately (and unconventionally) available to attendees by setting up a pop-up shop at the venue. The shop was instantly packed with shoppers trawling through the racks and tables; in the fray was Alisa Loftin, owner of fashion-forward boutique Aero & Co, who told Racked LA, "I've worked with Jared for eight years and this Black Chandelier collection is the best yet." Always one for theater, the airbrushed makeup by Temptu and Marie Antoinette hair was Jared Gold deluxe. As we predicted, Gold amped up the week with his signature eccentricity.
