Whitley Kros' spring '09 runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios last October
LA Fashion Week is looking slimmer and slimmer for next season's set of shows in March, and we're not talking about models. We learn from All the Rage that Reveal LA (organized by IDG World Expo), "the new hybrid runway show/fashion expo scheduled to launch March 20 during the California Market Center's fall market week, has been postponed until October," due to the economy.
Not only that, Davis Factor, who was planning on a new event for March to replace the shows at Smashbox Studios after the partnership with IMG dissolved, told the blog that it "is not likely to be a reality until later in 2009 either," probably announcing plans in March for October.
The blog also points to Downtown LA Fashion Week, noting that though it "boasts a March 2009 date, an organization by that name was planning an October 2008 event that never materialized."
That leaves Gen Art, and BOXeight, the indie designer set of shows that started a year ago. Per organizer Pete Gurnz, the event is looking to expand: "We’re actually looking at a bigger warehouse...It will be either four or five days and we plan on showcasing about 20 designers."
