Discontinued (Soon): The Elegant Mess on Fairfax, Moving to Vegas

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

A mid-range multi-designer boutique with a focus on independent designers, The Elegant Mess at 430 North Fairfax Avenue is closing up shop after a couple years in the area. There's a 60% off going out of biz sale currently, and on the shop's MySpace page it says "WERE LEAVING L.A!! YAAAAY!!!!" Not sure is this means that owner Alyx Suttle is taking the shop to another city or not (we've sent in inquiry, and haven't yet heard back), but this means the loss of one of few women's apparel options on the retail stretch, dominated by skate- and streetwear.

UPDATE: We just got an update from Alyx on the future of The Elegant Mess, and the boutique has big online and brick-and-mortar plans, but headquartered in the desert: "yes we're moving the whole shebang to Las Vegas. There isn't ANY stores like this there.. and I wanted to go to a city that's NOT TOO far away from here, but with a hipsterish nightlife that's about to pop...We're doing a live qvc style website. Like, home shopping network, but online. In a studio.. etc. We're really trying to outdo ourselves! We'll be relocating to the downtown arts district in Las Vegas in 2009, with a more minimal and to the point array or items..."

The Fairfax boutique closes in a week-and-a-half. [RackedWire]
