WWD describes this as a "surprising" collaboration, but we're surprised it hasn't happened already. Director Sofia Coppola has been tapped by Louis Vuitton to design a collection of handbags and shoes: "It is understood the products will be sold worldwide and launched in Japan. The filmmaker is often a front-row fixture at Vuitton, and currently stars with her father, Francis Ford Coppola, in its 'core values' campaign." Coppola has been a muse for Marc Jacobs (also the LV Creative Director), starring in the designer's ad campaign back in the day. It's a logical progression, considering Coppola's strongest asset as a filmmaker is the ability to create style and mood. [WWD, subscription req]
