The Botkier for Target handbag collection has popped up online and in-stores here and there. Per a commenter: "Visiting family in Virginia and went to the local Target.. these were already on the floor on 7/13/08.. They're okay. For this price range I think the Nine West bags I find at Ross are just as nice. Some of the detailing is nice but I wasn't blown away. I really was having to sell myself on them and decided to wait. May return to get one of the clutches." [RackedWire]
LA-ers will have another Target to try and nab all those gazillions of designer collab collections. A Curbed reader spotted "the filing of a case with City Planning" and writes in all caps, "CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW TARGET RETAIL SHOPPING CENTER, APPROXIMATELY 220,315 SQUARE FEET WITH APPROXIMATELY 458 PARKING STALLS." The site is at Sunset and Western, where there's a CVS and Ranch 99 market. Curbed hopes for "some pedestrian friendly elements, like putting the parking lot at the back of the building or in a garage." We're hoping for a less nightmarish parking garage situation than the Santa Monica and La Brea locale.

This jewelry collection by NYC designer Dean Harris for Target is a big further off than Botkier (July 20) and Richard Chai (August 3), landing in-store August 17 and departing during the holidays December 26. We're pleasantly surprised by this collection—delicate chains and semi-precious stones, leaf earrings, studded wood bangles—which really seems to encapsulate what Harris does (twisting wire into organic shapes; using natural elements), but translated to a lower price point at $19.99-$99.99. Though part of the line—the peace bracelet, the heart vine necklace—skew a bit young, pieces like the pebbled long chain necklace add sophistication. Per the release, there will be a "special holiday-edition piece priced at $249.99," which would have to be pretty spectacular for us to spend that much cash in one trip to Target, let alone on one item. [RackedWire]
We're heading down the homestretch toward the July 20 launch of label Botkier's collection for Target, which will be in-store and online through September 14. Price points fall between $19.99-$49.99 for a range of metallic (silver, gold, bronze, rose gold), black, white and fuchsia wristlets, tasseled little bags and roomy carryalls. Per the release: "Botkier incorporated the Target Bullseye logo as a signature hardware piece, featured on the entire collection, which doubles as a removable key chain." The designer collab handbag collections seem the most difficult to pull off at Target; you really have to check out the bags in person to differentiate the couple you'd actually use from the ones that just look too cheap. [RackedWire]
We got our hands on the lookbook for Richard Chai's collection for Target, which will be hitting stores August 3, and the designer's clean lines and unfussy approach definitely shine through. The collection leans heavily on electric blue, teal, black and different shades of purple, with shots of red and stone-hued denim. With a few slim pants, the line is dominated by dresses and shorts—either long and lean or short-short with some roominess at the thigh. The question with a collection that is more structured is whether the quality of tailoring will translate to the lower price point.

Nylon has nabbed the first look at Richard Chai's collection for Target, which will be dropping in August. At least for this selection of looks, there's a strong purple palette, ranging from saturated violet to eggplant to dusty mauve. Layered tops are everywhere, either over slim long shorts or skirts. We're wondering what the quality is like on this trench shown right. If it was decent in construction and fabrication, it would be a winner. It's one of the mag's favorite looks, each of which the pubs says "cost about $90 each (yes, for the whole outfit)." [Nylon]
A preview of the Botkier handbag collection for Target, which hits store July 20 has surfaced. Per The Cut: "we have a sneak peek at the collection. Designer Monica Botkier describes it as 'a mix of luxury and utility with a downtown edge. It is for the chic, modern woman — it features rich textures and luxe metallics, combining my signature use of hardware as the jewelry of a handbag while still keeping a focus on functionality.'" Signature Botkier highlights includes plenty interior pockets and "a key chain long enough to reach from purse to lock without too much awkward fumbling." In terms of her own line—in addition to her recently-launched shoe collection—Botkier "plans to expand into other categories of accessories." [The Cut]
