Now Open: Theodore in Beverly Hills

2008_7_theodore.jpg

After a solid stretch of nearly 40 years on Rodeo Drive, contemporary chain Theodore—which carries labels such as Martin Margiela, Roberto Cavalli and Ann Demeulemeester—has moved to a 4,000-square-foot space on Camden Drive. Per WWD: "The space, which opened last month, is outfitted in Theodore's signature style of white walls, pale floors and track lighting, all the better to showcase generously stacked tables of brightly colored T-shirts from $50 to $80 and matching flip-flops for about $125, sweet summer dresses and a range of men's wear." The chain has eight stores in the LA area, including "Marina Del Rey, Calabasas, The Grove, Malibu and Brentwood," plus "A unit will open in Palm Desert, Calif., in October."

Launches & Releases: Current/Elliott Denim

Photos via Denimology

Denim label Current/Elliott launches this month, hitting Barneys New York first with nationwide distribution to follow. LA stylists Merrit Elliott and Emily Current, the duo behind the line, got a big thumbs up in Vogue's July issue, which describes the label as "...the most refreshing denim line to come out of LA's jean scene in a long, long time." The concept behind the line—taking vintage styles such as worn-in Levi's and Lee originals and giving them a modern, flattering fit—is not new, but the execution in the form of high-waisted flared to skinny fit jeans, as well as vests, shrunken jackets, dresses and skirts looks pretty meticulous. From the article, save two two American-made fabrics, "Current/Elliott jeans are made from new sweater-soft Japanese denim..." Of course, you pay for that sort of detail and high-end fabrication with the boyfriend jean running $206. We couldn't find a site for the label yet, We only found a little bit of press, but we predict beaucoup attention to come. For more lookbook pics, check here and here.

Now Open: V Vintage in Beverly Hills

Jill Garland has ventured into retail with V Vintage boutique in Beverly Hills, across the street from Porta Via restaurant, which she co-owns with her husband. An intimate space with a pink and white decor, the vintage jewelry and handbag shop is by appointment only.

Per the LAT, Garland "has been collecting vintage costume jewelry and clutches since she worked behind the jewelry counter at Barneys New York seven years ago," which translates into items such as "a pair of Yves Saint Laurent sterling silver chandelier earrings ($1,200), an eye-catching Nina Ricci coral cabochon bracelet ($425) and a 1967 Christian Dior enamel cuff ($575)."

More affordable pieces include "a '60s Lucite rhinestone cocktail ring for $40, a pair of bright Bakelite bangles for $125 and sterling silver drop earrings for $155." You can get a feel for the boutique above from the LX.TV spot—there's a considerable selection for such a small space.

Now Open: Damiani on Rodeo

We saw it coming, and now luxury Italian jeweler Damiani has opened its doors on Rodeo, a few steps north of Wilshire. Per the release, the boutique concept was conceived by Italian architect Antonio Citterio, who used materials such as mahogany santos wood, amber glass, bronzed brass, and furnishings with "minimal chic shape."

Recently ousted from a Dior campaign in China for stating that the Chinese had been unkind to Tibetans, Sharon Stone has been tapped by Damiani for its ad campaign. Per The Cut, "the campaign is inspired by female icons throughout history — like Amelia Earhart and Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel. In a nod to literalism, Stone appears in some of the ads with goggles on her head (above), or a swim cap, or a medal (too bad the Olympics are in Beijing — these just beg for sporting-event placement)." The actress "only agreed to appear in the campaign since the company promised to donate 2 percent of sales to a charity that helps provide clean drinking water in countries where diamonds are mined." You can just imagine the Damiani peeps crossing their diamond-encrusted fingers and hoping Stone will shhhhhhhhhh.

Storecasting: Confirming Our Tipster, Missoni Beverly Hills

2008_6_missoni.jpg

The high fashion boutiques just keep coming. Of late, Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen on Melrose, with Alberta Ferretti hot on their heels, and now Missoni to Beverly Hills. This confirms our intel from a tipster way back in the beginning of April that the fashion house was going to take over the shuttered Theodore space. Per FWD: "The new West Coast flagship will be located on the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and North Rodeo Drive, just a stone's throw from Giorgio Armani and Ralph Lauren."

Of note is its interior design choice: "The brand has tapped Patrick Kinmonth, the opera designer and photography and gardening author best known in fashion circles for having masterminded Valentino's 45th anniversary retrospective at the Richard Meier-designed Ara Pacis Museum in Rome, Italy."

Buy Sellebrity: Madonna Shady in Chanel 'Chaine'

2008_6_madonnasun.jpg
Photo via Bigpictures

Madge looks like some sort of fleeing secret agent in black trench and Chanel's 'Chaine' sunglasses. Of course, the metal, plastic and lambskin shades have a Chanel price tag to accompany at $530, which, per PR, are available at both the Rodeo Drive and Robertson Boulevard boutiques. We like the security guy behind her, who looks utterly unamused by the whole situation. Get a closer look at the glasses after the jump. [Racked Inbox]

Looks from Nicole Miller's bridal collection

Gays and lesbians are not the only ones rejoicing over the California Supreme Court legalizing same-sex marriages. Per WWD, scores of designers and retailers are kicking up their heels as well, as they see bridal sales soar in a rough economy. Just take a look at these numbers:

"In the next three years, same-sex nuptials could generate as much as $683.6 million in revenue from weddings, hotels, marriage license fees, taxes and other tourism-related activities, according to a study by the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at the UCLA School of Law."

Local winners include Nicole Miller who "saw bridal sales more than quadruple last week in her Los Angeles boutique"; luxe gift boutique Gearys of Beverly Hills, whose owner Tom Blumenthal told the trade "about a dozen same-sex couples have inquired about registering in just the last two weeks—some of them famous," describing them as "major, major registries"; Santa Monica jewelry store Rafinity, which does an average of 20-40 weddings a month "had at least 10 to 15 same-sex couples shopping for wedding rings since the court decision"; and jewelry Neil Lane told the pub: "My business has increased....It is a whole new audience..."
