This Saturday, June 2, one of New York's top outdoor marketplaces is hitting Hollywood: the Hester Street Fair. Founded by our favorite former MTV VJ SuChin Pak along with Ron Castellano, Adam Zeller and Suhyun Pak, the four-weekend event will host the crème de la crème of independent fashion, food, art and craft vendors for the community to purchase goods from while enjoying bites, drinks and tunes. Did we mention it's completely free and open to the public? That's right. To kick HSF's West Coast debut off right, Pak rounded up the five LA fashion vendors she recommends beelining to when you get there.
1. Rojas: "This brand's work is tribal-meets-Coachella-meets-Ibiza. I know it's a strange combo, but it works and feels very summertime in LA. Each piece is completely original—they even customize Chucks! MIA, Santigold, Gwen Stefani and Justin Timberlake are huge fans."
2. Fair Season Vintage: "This is one of my favorite vintage vendors for opening day. Their stuff is both special and affordable, which is just my style. The buyer is really good at picking vintage items that feature that worn-in look, without the fuss. It's the kind of vintage you can wear all year round and is super easy to incorporate into your daily look. I hear that she's bringing tons of summer-ready pieces."
3. Flea Market Girl: "I think this jeweler is going to be one of the busiest vendors on June 2. They create each piece by hand using wood, brass and bronze. Everything is badass, quirky and very rock 'n' roll; I recommend wearing their stuff layered by the dozens! The price point is really great, too."
4. Standard Goods: "I just spoke with the retailer's owner Garrett Colton and he revealed that he's going with a "California Summer" theme for this booth. Some hot items to expect include custom frisbees, a really awesome sock collaboration with RTH, and a line of basics from Universal Product, which is this really cool Japanese brand that isn't sold anywhere else in the US. I've got my eye on the vintage fashion books he'll be bringing from Lisa Eisner's early days, too."
5. Jill Aiko Yee: "I've been wearing this designer's work ever since I moved to LA. It's all handmade and inspired by very simple lines cut in a way that fits just about any body type. I love her mix of patterns and the high-end quality of her materials. It's all cut from the most incredible silks and cottons."
The first installment of the Hester Street Fair LA opens June 2, from 11am to 7pm. All events are located on a lot at Hollywood and Argyle. Click here for the official summer schedule.
